History of Brutalism

Brutalism is a somewhat ambiguous term which has its origins in the early 1950's. There is really no specific definition of what makes a building brutalist, it can be applied to a building with heavy use of concrete or which uses unadorned materials although it can also be applied to a building which is heavy, unemotional and 'brutalist'. An excellent video and brief overview of the subject via the Open University HERE
